The Bachelor of Science program in Computer Engineering offered by the CSEE department at UMBC is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET, Inc.) the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.  ABET is a federation of 28 professional and technical societies representing these fields.  Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the United States, ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for over 70 years. 

Computer Engineering Educational Objectives

  • Prepare our graduates with the problem solving skills and knowledge necessary to practice Computer Engineering successfully
  • Prepare our graduates with the fundamentals to adapt to technical changes in the field of computer engineering
  • Prepare graduates to pursue graduate and/or professional education in computer engineering
  • Prepare graduates with the broad skills needed for career success, including:
      (a) written and oral communication,
      (b) teamwork,
      (c) understanding of professional and ethical responsibility,
      (d) desire and aptitude to continue lifelong learning
      (e) understanding of contemporary issues and the impact of engineering on society and
      (f) fundamental business skills such as project leadership and management, risk management and entrepreneurship

The computer engineering program allows students to choose one of the following two tracks of specialization:

  1. VLSI
  2. Communications
