The CSEE Research Day is an annual event hosted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (U.M.B.C.) Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (C.S.E.E.). It serves as a celebration and showcase of selected, groundbreaking research accomplishments achieved by faculty, staff, and students across the department.
The event operates on a single track designed to synthesize advancements across our core disciplines, including Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. CSEE Research Day brings together the UMBC community and is free and open to the general public, including industry partners, alumni, and government agency representatives.
Faculty Spotlight Talks & Invited Lecturers
Faculty members and research staff present 20-minute talks summarizing recent, concrete research achievements. These presentations are designed to cross-pollinate ideas across the department and often highlight cutting-edge topics like advanced neural networks, intelligent health sensing, and cognitive vision.
Student Research Excellence Awards
Highly competitive student research awards recognize outstanding peer-reviewed work across three distinct tiers:
- Undergraduate
- Masters (M.S.)
- Ph.D.
Winners receive gift certificates and are invited to present their research in formal 20-minute academic sessions during the event.
Community & Networking
A department-wide poster session features dozens of concurrent student projects. This session offers a dynamic environment for attendees to interact one-on-one with student researchers, discuss their methodologies, and explore emerging tech solutions. To foster this highly collaborative environment, the event includes a complimentary catered lunch and refreshment breaks, serving as an ideal hub for academic networking and community engagement.
