On our programs
- In Fall 2024, CSEE enrolled 2145 undergraduate students and 1028 graduate students.
- CSEE programs are available to both full-time and part-time students and include several accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program options. In addition, selected programs are offered both on Main Campus (Catonsville, MD) and at the Universities at Shady Grove (Rockville, MD) in Montgomery County.
- CSEE maintains strong, active industry partnerships with global firms, regional and national companies, and many emerging technology companies in UMBC’s Research Park.
- CSEE’s alumni are employed by prestigious national technology innovators as well as major local and national employers.
- For over 20 years, UMBC has been a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) and Research (CAE-R) based on our undergraduate and graduate computer science programs with tracks and research in cybersecurity.
- Computer Science was the largest degree program at UMBC in terms of the number of undergraduate degrees awarded at UMBC in the 2023-2024 academic year.
On our faculty
- 16 of our faculty received the NSF CAREER Award, which NSF describes as its “most prestigious award in support of early-career faculty.” Approximately 30 percent of all UMBC NSF CAREER awardees are from our department.
- Eight of our faculty are on the 2023 Stanford’s List of World’s Top 2% Scientists.
- Of the top 10 UMBC researchers on Google Scholar, five are from our department with a combined h-index of 405 as of March 2024.
- Ten of our faculty members are Fellows of professional organizations such as the IEEE, ACM, SIAM, APS, ASI, AAAI, NSBP, ACCS, and Optica with a cumulative total of 26 such recognitions.
