The authors Patterson and Hennessy have written a few books with very similar titles, be sure to get the right book and the second edition. ISBN 1-55860-428-6. Reading and homework assignments are from this book.

Grading Policy

 Distribution                       Course grade

 Final Exam    25%                  A 90% - 100%
 Mid-term Exam 15%                  B 80% - 89.9%
 Projects      25%                  C 70% - 79.9%
 Homework      35%                  D 60% - 69.9%
                                    
 The projects get 33% for part1, 33% for part2, 34% for part3
 Partial credit is given on homework and projects.
 No partial credit on multiple choice, true-false, single answer exam questions.

Computer usage

 You need access to 'esim' and 'ecomp'
 ln -s  /afs/umbc.edu/users/s/q/squire/pub/esim esim
 ln -s  /afs/umbc.edu/users/s/q/squire/pub/ecomp ecomp

 or
 ln -s  /afs/umbc.edu/users/e/t/etmiller/home/esim/ecomp ecomp
 ln -s  /afs/umbc.edu/users/e/t/etmiller/home/esim/esim esim


 All students must have an account on the UMBC gl machines.
 The projects and some homework will use the "submit" mechanism.
 All students must be able to access the WWW to get assignments.
 Modem and telnet connections are available for remote use.
 Also, Linux may be used for working the simulation project.
