1996 Pan-American Chess Championships

Scholarship Prizes to Top Scholastic Team:

The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) will offer the following scholarship prizes to the winning team in the 1996 Pan-American Scholastic Team Championship. The total maximum value of these awards is approximately $59,712. Students not on the winning team are encourage to apply for UMBC's other chess scholarships.

Conditions

  • To qualify, the candidate must be accepted to and matriculate at UMBC.

  • To maintain the award, the student must earn at least 12 credits each semester and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.25 out of 4.0.

  • These awards are restricted to USA citizens or permanent residents.

  • If Board 1 declines the full-tuition award, it will be offered to the highest board player (or alternate) on the winning team who accepts it (in place of a $2,000/year award). If no one on the winning team accepts the scholarship, it will not be awarded to anyone else.

  • Recipients must have played at least one game on the winning scholastic team during the championship.
