Short biography

Giuseppe D’Aguanno received his Ph.D. in Applied Electromagnetism and Electro-Physical Sciences from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Italy) in 2000. From 2001 to 2003, he was a research associate with the National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM-Italy) and an adjunct professor at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” where he taught electromagnetism, classical mechanics, and thermodynamics. From 1999 to 2002, he was also a visiting scholar at U.S. Army, AMRDEC, Redstone Arsenal. From 2003 to 2005, he was a research physicist for Time Domain Corporation in Huntsville-Alabama. From 2005 to 2009, he was a U.S. National Research Council (National Academy of Sciences) senior research associate at the Charles M. Bowden Laboratory of the U.S. Army (Redstone Arsenal). From 2009 to 2014, he was a senior research scientist for AEgis Technologies (Huntsville-Alabama). From 2015 to 2016 he was a research associate professor in Computational Photonic Group of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). In 2017 he spent one year as research scientist in the Wireless Networking and Communications Group of the University of Texas at Austin. Since January 2018, he is a senior member of the professional staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. In 2019 he has been appointed visiting professor at UMBC. His academic research interests include nonlinear optics, photonics plasmonics, metamaterials, computational electromagnetics, acoustics. Dr. D’Aguanno is the coauthor of more than 200 publications, including peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings, has 5 book contributions, and also holds 4 patents in the field of nano-photonics and metamaterials. He is a Fellow of Optica (formerly Optical Society of America) and Senior Member of IEEE.
