Research Areas

  • Dr.Haibin is interested in building provably secure and practically useful (distributed) systems. He is one of the main inventors of Norton Zone, Symantec’s scalable cloud storage (with three awarded patents), and BChain, a highly efficient BFT protocol implemented within Hyperledger blockchain framework and featured in Hyperledger white paper. Besides BChain, Dr.Haibin’s research team have designed and implemented a number of other BFT and blockchain consensus systems, including ByzID (SRDS 14, BFT with trusted components), CBFT (SRDS 16, BFT with confidentiality), causal BFT (DSN 17, BFT with causality), and recently BEAT (CCS 18, asynchronous BFT made practical). His work is supported by NSF SFS, NSF PFI (the first PFI award on blockchains), TEDCO Maryland Innovation Initiative (the first award on blockchains), and DHS Science and Technology.
