CMSC421 -- Extra Credit Written Report

You must sign up for that OS before starting your report. There will be a sign-up sheet on the door of ECS-202B. I do not want more than two people reporting on a particular OS.

Your report is to cover the features of the selected operating system. Some of the older OSs lacked today's advanced features, but they did have many capabilities. Specific features to be included in your report are:

• Process scheduling algorithm
• Virtual memory (All systems could execute a program that was larger than available memory, how did they do it.)
• Virtual memory page replacement algorithm
• Filesystems supported
• Disk scheduling algorithm
• Availability of networking -- how was it possible
• Distributed file system

Your report is to be a cover page and three pages of text, double spaced. Font size of must be 12 points. Graphics can be used if they contribute to the report.

There are many books published on specific operating systems and there is a lot of material available on the Internet. I suggest you start with the newsgroups.
