·         Join industry visionaries, UMBC faculty and corporate partners from throughout the Baltimore/Washington region for the third annual UMBC Visionaries in Information Technology Forum. Share ideas on the future of information technology and its critical role in shaping the modern business environment

 

·         The Forum for Visionaries in Information Technology welcomes Richard W. Peebles, Vice President and General Manager of Software and Electronics Business Group, and the Chief Technology Officer of the Office Group for Xerox Corporation

 

o        Rick joined Xerox in 1991 as manager of the document services platform architecture group, and worked with the management of the Business Groups to help deliver a coherent suite of document services to Xerox customers.  In 1999, he joined the Office Systems Group as Chief Technology Officer reporting to the group President.  He initiated a strong platform-based product strategy, and was given responsibility for OSG software development in 2000.

 

o        From 1984 to 1991, Rick was Director of Research and of Software Development at Concurrent Computer Corporation in New Jersey.  At Concurrent, he led the development of a number of products designed for Real Time applications and for Parallel Processing computer architectures.  Prior to joining Concurrent, Rick managed a variety of Advanced Development and Research projects at Digital Equipment Corporation in Massachusetts.  His work included Workstation design, Distributed Operating Systems research, and the application of Expert System technology to Office Automation.

 

o        Rick was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, from 1972 to 1977 where he taught and conducted research in the areas of data management and distributed systems.  He has a B.Sc. (Honors Physics) from McGill University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Moore School of the University of Pennsylvania.
