Items are posted in reverse chronological order (that is, from
most recent to oldest).
- As announced in class, I will have office hours on Tuesday, 5/28, from 10:30am to 2:30pm. If you would
like to pick your Exam 3 up or discuss Project 5, that is the time. After that day,
I will not be on campus and will be unavailable via e-mail until one week before the
beginning of the fall semester.
If you wish to discuss Project 5, you must have
already run the project yourself with the test file that the graders used (see notice
directly below). Also, IF A CHANGE IN YOUR PROJECT 5 GRADE, EXAM 3 GRADE, OR BOTH
WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR FINAL GRADE, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SEE ME. It is expected
that you have already computed your final grade (according to the formula given in
class) BEFORE you come to see me.
I will not answer any questions regarding grades via e-mail. You must see me in
person.

- You can find the test file that the graders used to test your Project 5 in my public
directory: /afs/umbc.edu/users/s/m/smitchel/pub/CMSC202/p5
The file is called items.dat
and was used as follows:
Proj5 < items.dat
The output was then compared with p5testoutput.txt
, which can also be found
in my public directory.

- You can find the test file that the graders used to test your Project 4 in my public
directory: /afs/umbc.edu/users/s/m/smitchel/pub/CMSC202/p4
The file is called trans.dat
and was used as follows:
Proj4 < trans.dat
The output was then compared with testoutput.txt
, which can also be found in my public
directory. When you run this test, you may want to capture the output as follows for
easy comparison:
Proj4 < trans.dat > somefile.txt

- ANOTHER IMPORTANT PROJECT 5 NOTE: There was a typo in the
Project 5 description in the "Other Notes Section." The line that states:
Do include rules in your Makefile to build the .o (object) files for any classes that are template classes.
should be:
Do not include rules in your Makefile to build the .o (object) files for any classes that are template classes.

The files are: tjobs.dat, tclients.dat, empty1.dat, and empty2.dat. The files

The files are: proj1.C, test.C, empty.dat, cdefghijklmn.dat, and qrstuvw.dat.
proj1.C is the same file that you were given originally. test.C is another
driver program that creates a second list containing the characters "qrstuvw"
(that is why the file qrstuvw.dat is needed). Both proj1.C and test.C were
run using cdefghijklmn.dat as the input file. Heap sizes were varied.
