Project Requirements

• 201 C coding standards and acceptable indentation styles

  If you use emacs or xemacs as your text editor and would like it to indent and place braces automatically to the CMSC 104 and 201 standards, then you can put this .emacs file in your home directory. The easiest way to do this is :

  1. Go to the lab in ECS 005
  2. login at one of those computers
  3. Get Netscape running
  4. Go to this page
  5. Click on the ".emacs file" link
  6. Click the File button in Netscape
  7. Choose "Save As"
  8. Answer "okay" to the text box

  Since this is a dot file, meaning its name begins with a dot, it is a hidden file and you will not see its name when giving the ls command. There are many dot files in your account. They are placed there by applications that you have run in your account, like emacs, pine and netscape. If you would like to see the names of all of the dot files that are in your account, try ls -a

  If you have followed the 8 steps shown above correctly, from this point on your indentation will be 3 spaces and the braces will go right underneath the "i" in "if", just as it should for the standards.
