CMSC 104

Homework 1

Homework 1 is worth 25 points and is due Monday September 25 before the beginning of class (11:00 AM).
Late homeworks will NOT be accepted and recieve a score of 0.

  1. Use emacs (or pico) to create a file called hw1.txt, which contains information about yourself.
Please include your name, SSN, course number, section number, major, and class standing (i.e. sophomore).
Tell me a little bit about yourself. Tell me which programming languages you know, if any. Tell me which operating systems you are familiar with.
I'd like to know why you are taking this course, too.

  2. Use pine to send an email to the TA (cai1@gl.umbc.edu) that has the hw1.txt file that you created in step 1 as an attachment.
Send a carbon copy (cc) to me (frey@cs.umbc.edu) and to yourself.

Note: You'll find that emacs is easier to use from the SGI machines in ECS 005.
There is also a version of emacs called xemacs that is available on UNIX
boxes running X-windows. xemacs is also available on the machines in ECS 005.
