Before 1995, I wrote guidelines for the course CMSC-693: Master's Research Project (whose official name was unfortunately "Research and Writing Skills"). In addition, I created a simple sample Latex template for the title and abstract pages. By request from students and staff, today I made these documents available from the web: http://www.cs.umbc.edu/courses/graduate/693 Previously these documents were available from the Dept's FTP server only, because I created the documents before the web existed. A few years ago, Dr. Charles Abzug also wrote another set of 693 guidelines, which today I asked him to put on the web. Please note that there have been many administrative changes since I wrote these guidelines (including the merger of CMSC and EE, the creation of a MS Thesis option in CMSC, and other changes to CMSC-692/693/698). The CMSC-693 Technical Report corresponds roughly to what the EE graduate program calls a "scholarly paper." DISCLAIMER: I am simply making these documents available for reference to anyone who may find them useful. See the catalog and the Graduate Director for the current official CMSC-693 requirements.
