	On Saturday, February 17, the UMBC Chess Club had its annual 
simultaneous exhibition.  This year we had the privilege of playing 
against Grandmaster Ilya Smirin.  He played against 23 people, and 
allowed his opponents to choose the colors.  Within an hour and 30 
minutes, all of the games were finished; GM Smirin finished with a score 
of 21 wins, one loss, and one draw.  The draw was to an unrated player by 
the name of Charles Czapar, and the loss was to our very own Ishan 
Weerakoon.  The Czapar game will be featured in the next issue of the MCA 
Newsletter, and the Weerakoon game should appear in the following issue.

	The next major event that we will sponsor is the UMBC Open, which
will take place March 16-17.  We hope to see you there.
