EF: $8 if received by 3/3; $10 at site. Registration: 9-10am. Rounds: 10:30, 1, 3, 5. Trophies to top five teams (top four players from same school), to top individual from MD, and to top three individuals not from MD. Top 16 MD residents invited to Finals, where all win trophies and Champion wins scholarship to UMBC.* (* The scholarship will be a full four-year award for MD resident tuition. To qualify, the candidate must be accepted to and matriculate at UMBC. To maintain the award, the recipient must earn 12 credits each semester and maintain a grade point average of 3.25. The scholarship will be awarded to the highest-placing MD resident who accepts the award. If a nonresident wins the High School Section, that student will be recommended for a possible additional scholarship.) Middle School (grades 8/under) 4-SS, G/30. Trophies to top four teams (top two from same school), and to top ten individuals. Primary School (grades 3/under)-Quick Chess 5-SS, G/15. EF: $4 if received by 3/3; $6 at site. Registration: 1-2pm. Rounds: 2, 2:30, 3, 3:30. Trophies to top two teams (top two from same school), and to top five individuals. All: Each section is an individual Swiss system, with teams defined after the event. MCA and USCF memberships required (juniors may purchase at event for $3.50 and $10, respectively). 1/2 point byes available any round, if requested in advance. Spectators free and welcome. _______________________________________________________________ Directions to UMBC From Interstate 95: Take Exit 47B (47A goes to BWI Airport) onto Rt. 166 north (towards Catonsville), and follow signs to UMBC. Turn left onto Loop Road. From Interstate 70: Follow I695 south and take Exit 12C (Wilkens Ave. West). Proceed 1/2 mile west on Wilkens Ave. to UMBC entrance on left. Turn right onto Loop Road. Parking: Park in Lot 16 or Lot 9, or anywhere along Loop Road. Walk towards the campus center. The UMBC Open will also take place that weekend (April 15-16). So, even if you do not qualify for the Finals, return to UMBC in April to play chess.
