Exam  (Due May 15 or sooner) (100 points)

This exam is take home and open book. Provide a list of sources (papers/text and others) you used to compile your essay in answer to the questions.
 

  1. Provide a detailed discussion of the INTSERV architecture and show how it can provide guaranteed service in the Internet. Be sure to discuss the three main building blocks namely, the Traffic regulators, Reservation protocols and  Scheduling schemes. (30 points)
  2. What are the pitfalls of the intserv design and how are they remedied by the diffserv and MPLS architectures? (30 points)
  3. Discuss in detail a QoS routing algorithm. (Much more detail than is provided in the Chen & Nahrstedt paper) (20 points)
  4. Discuss the importance of each frame types in an MPEG compression scheme. In a sequence like IPBBIPBB.. , what is the significance of having two B frames? In other words how are they different? (20 points)
