Amen Zwa's Image Server
Thanks to Amen Zwa we have an ``image server'' for viewing graphic
output from the MasPar, and other remote hosts. The following are
available:
To save you from having to re-compile things, a pre-complied verion
of the image client "isend" is available on the MasPar in the
directory ~motteler/imgclt, and a
pre-compiled version of the image server for SGIs is available
for downloading. You can test the image server across the
goddard-umbc link, from an SGI workstation, as follows.
On the UMBC workstation:
- make sure you have the image server binary "imgsvr", and the
image server colormap, "nbody_cmap", on the SGI
- start the image server with the command "imgsvr -c nbody_cmap"
On the MasPar at Goddard:
- make sure you have the image client "isend" and the test program
"itest", from ~motteler/imgclt on the MasPar
- start the image client with the command "itest | isend -s xxx",
where "xxx" is the internet address of the SGI workstation
After about twenty seconds, you should see a "spectrum" in the image
server window, which then flips from a horizontal to a vertical
orientation roughly once every 20 seconds, depending on network
bandwidth and latency. You may need to ^C both ends, to kill
things, since itest will keep sending images. Normally, isend
will terminate when there is no more input, and imgsvr will
terminate when isend terminates.
Once you are confident the link works, you can substitute your
n-body program for the test program itest.
