Recent research in mobile data management has been focused on delivery
of information from static data servers to mobile clients. The strategies
for mobile data delivery and management depend largely upon, and adapt
to, the type of communication links, the connectivity and capabilities
of
mobile hosts, and the consistency requirements of applications. With
the planned deployment of 4G wireless networks, wireless data management
will become an increasingly important topic if information systems are
to take advantage of the advances in wireless networks.
Wireless technology (and the ubiquitous access it promotes) is clearly becoming increasingly important to business users - there is a growing list of business applications (from inventory taking to parcel delivery to movers) that use wireless access in a primitive form. Wireless and ubiquitous access will also prove very important to electronic commerce. Thus there is a need to create a framework for the academic research and evolve standards in this area, which will make it easier to transfer the research into commercial products. What seem to be lacking are general middleware architectures that can support mobility.

RIDE 2000 will bring together a mix of audience and papers from both
academia and industry that talk about general architectures and
infrastructures, as well as specific systems, applications, and
experiences.
Papers are solicited on topics including but not limited to:
Best Paper Award
An award will be given to the best paper. The authors of the best
paper will be invited to submit an extended version for publication in the
Journal of Distributed and Parallel Databases.

Papers are solicited on various aspects relating to the scope of the workshop. We invite submissions from both academia and industry. The preferred mode of submission is electronic, in pdf or postscript formats. Please submit the paper using email to both the Program Chairs. In case electronic submissions are not possible, hardcopy submission may be sent to each program co-chair. Papers should be at most 12 double-spaced pages, in fonts not smaller than 11pt. (approximately 3000 words).
