IS Robotics in Somerville, MA has immediate openings for two
software programmers to do state-of-the-art development of
intelligent robots and wearable computing.
The positions address specific current needs of ISR, however, we
are a dynamic company with many interesting projects. Every
employee has the opportunity to work on other projects (and will
indubitably do so). Note also that ISR believes in the value of a
diverse range of backgrounds. The experience requirements should be
taken as guidelines, not mandates.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1) SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER for Robot and Wearable Systems Over
the next three years, we will develop a natural control interface
between human and robot using a wearable computer. The wearable
interface includes speech and gesture recognition, eye-tracking,
and augmented reality heads-up displays. The robot will be a new
prototype to add to our suite of small autonomous robots that are
built on the subsumption software architecture developed by Rod
Brooks, our chairman and Assoc. Director of the MIT AI Lab.
Development languages will include C/C++ and L/MARS, a subset of
common Lisp that provides runtime behavioral robot control
primitives. The system will be built on an event-driven
distributed architecture. The work will also address issues in
situated planning and supervisory control of mobile robots.
We seek a software developer to help implement this project, in
concert with a team of roboticists, human-computer interaction
(HCI) experts, and software, electrical, and mechanical engineers.
The ideal candidate has excellent skills in at least one of C, C++
or Common Lisp and familiarity with the others; has a background in
AI or control systems; and is interested in reactive robot control,
distributed agent architectures, or HCI.
Experience: B.S. or M.S. in CS, or equivalent, plus 4+ years
relevant experience in industry or academia.

2) SOFTWARE DEVELOPER for Robot and Wearable Systems We are looking
for a smart, innovative C programmer to be responsible for areas of
systems infrastructure and C programming support across a variety
of ISR projects, including state-of-the-art robots, wearable
computers, next-generation toys, and commercial ventures. The ideal
candidate has excellent skills in C, has a Unix background, is
comfortable with hardware devices, and likes to learn.
Any of the following skills or experience is also a plus:
- Systems programming, device drivers, interrupt handlers, &etc
- Assembly language programming, particularly for either x86 or 68k
- Assembly language programming for digital signal processor chips
- Developing for real-time operating systems
- Windows-95/NT development environments and tools
- Programming in Common Lisp or similar languages
Experience: B.S. in CS/EE or equivalent.
