Welcome to the website for UMBC’s Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE). For more than 25 years, the CSEE Department has produced the Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering leaders of tomorrow. This year our enrollments are up with 1100 undergraduate majors and 250 graduate students.
Research is a key focus here; Our research funding continues to grow with projects supported by both government and industrial partners, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Department of Defense (DoD). Our expenditures were nearly at the $5 million level for last fiscal year and our awards starting in January 2012 exceed $5.5 million.
This fall we welcomed two new assistant professors to the department: Nilanjan Banerjee, who specializes in renewable energy driven devices, and Jian Chen, who specializes in scientific visualizations. Our department has 34 tenure-track professors whose expertise ranges from artificial intelligence to data mining to cybersecurity, and beyond.
