The CSEE department would like to thank the following companies for providing equipment and software either through educational discount programs or donations for the CMPE teaching labs in the ITE building.

CMPE Teaching Labs

  • CAD Lab: ITE 375
The cad lab is equipped with 25 Dell Optiplex workstations with 20-inch viewable flat-panel displays running Linux. This lab is used for most VLSI classes that use various CAD and Design Automation tools. The lab is augmented with four (3 Sun and 1 Linux) dedicated servers for running Cadence software. The lab also contains a 42-inch HP plotter.

  • EE Lab: ITE 210
The EE lab presently has 25 Dell Optiplex workstations with dual-boot (Windows 2000 and Linux) capabilities. The lab is used mainly as a general-purpose computing lab and for running Xilinx software and interfacing Xilinx Spartan II FPGA boards manufactured by XESS Corporation. In near future this lab will be stocked with test and measurement equipment required for the communication track classes.

  • Test & Measurement Lab: ITE 242
The T&M lab has electrical workbenches equipped with a slew of bench-top measurement equipment, soldering stations, illuminated magnifying glasses and Dell Optiplex workstations. A standard bench configuration has a triple DC power supply from Agilent, Textronix 100MHz and 500MHz digital oscilloscopes, Textronix Arbitrary Function Generator, prototyping boards, Fluke Digital multi-meters and 32-channel National Instruments PCI digital IO cards. All the equipment is GPIB enables and can be interfaced to the PC using a National Instruments PCI GPIB card and controlled using LabView.

  • Senior Design Workshop: ITE 244
The Senior Design Workshop has computing as well as test and measurement equipment. This lab is used by students in the Capstone course for their senior design projects. It provides access to equipment for extended hours to complete their projects. Also this lab is used by the members of the IEEE student chapter at UMBC for design projects submitted to various competitions.
