table last revised January 25, 2007

This schedule should be used for planning purposes only and offerings should be verified with the department. Remember that making predications is difficult, especially about the future. The catalog entries for standard courses are available. online.

Core courses. The CSEE department offers three graduate core courses: CMSC 611 (Architecture), CMSC 621 (Systems), and CMSC 641 (Algorithms). These are all required for the CS MS program and have associated required written Ph.D. comprehensive exams. This page presents the planned schedule of when these courses will be offered in the future and is based on an intention to offer each course at least once each year and probably three semesters our of four. The (e) indicate the course is offered in evening time (typically 4:00-5:15 or 5:30 – 6:45) for the convenience of our part-time graduate students.

Breadth courses. The department offers a number of breadth courses. These are typically offered once a year either in the spring or fall, but we are occasionally forced to deviate from this pattern due to staffing constraints.

Depth courses. We also offer a variety of advanced courses at the 600, 700 and 800 level as well as many "special topics" courses (e.g., 691, 791).

Who will teach them?

The teaching assignments for these courses will typically rotate among a set of faculty for each. Here are the planned rotations, starting with the Fall of 2003. These rotations are even more subject to change and will typically be determined jointly by the faculty groups involved (e.g., computer engineering, systems, theory), the department chair and scheduling committee. It is expected that teaching 611 will be equally shared between the CS and CE faculty.
  • 611: Olano, Plusquellic, Phatak, Younis
  • 621: Kalpakis, YeYesha, Joshi, Sivalingam
  • 641: Chang, Sherman, Kargupta, Lomonaco
